Mikell: Steve Spagnuolo Wanted Philly, But Did Eagles Want Him?

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last month, former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo accepted a job with the New Orleans Saints to become their new defensive coordinator. Much was made of the decision, and the story generally wgoes that Spagnuolo wanted a change of scenery and the opportuntiy to work alongside Sean Payton’s high-powered offense in order to parlay probably success into another head coaching gig. Conventional wisdom suggests the Saints will be slightly better position to make a Super Bowl in in 2012 than the Eagles (despite Trent Cole’s recent insistence to the contrary). But now comes this little tidbit from former Eagles safety [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles, Offseason | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Super Bowl is over and now out attention turns toward the offseason schedule. The Philadelpihia Eagles have some work to do if they plan to catch the Super Bowl Champion (ugh) New York Giants, so here is a list of important dates to mark on your offseason calendar. February 20: Franchise Tag can be applied. Starting on the 20th of February, NFL teams can apply the franchise tag to any big name free agents they want to secure for next season. For the Eagles, the only player who may receive the tag would be WR DeSean Jackson. But don’t [...]

Super Bowl Finish, Much Like Eagles’ Season Anything But a Dream

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

You know when you wake up in the middle of the night and realize you were in the midst of a terrible dream? And then you go back to sleep and you have another dream that’s even worse? Well, here’s the thing. The Eagles’ pathetic 8-8 season was anything but a dream. But we slowly got over it. Then, the second nightmare happened–but again, it was real. What was once thought to be a season that would end with a parade down Broad Street will end with a parade 75 miles north in that cesspool of a city known as [...]

Super Bowl XLVI Predictions: Giants Vs. Patriots

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles | COMMENTS: 28 Comments

Because you haven’t already read/watched/heard 571 Super Bowl predictions over the last two weeks–here’s ten more. I’m not going to bore you with rehashed paragraphs of the same crap we’ve heard for weeks–plus, the general public is stupid, so instead of making you suffer through paragraphs, I’ll be making my predictions with bullet points. 1. The Patriots are going to score more than 24 points. Look, the Giants have a great pass rush that’s been in sync for more than a month now. But their back seven is below average, at best. Tom Brady, in a revenge game, with two [...]

Giants Team Website Posts Ad Declaring Team Super Bowl Champions

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

This is a big time no-no. It’s one thing for the Giants roster to be barking guarantees about shutting down Tom Brady, it’s entirely other thing when the team’s official friggen website posts an advertisement declaring the team champions. Yeah, it was a mistake, I’m sure. But somebody dropped the ball big time here. The football gods frown upon the presumptuous. And I’m going to assume they won’t allow any receivers to make game changing catches with their facemasks in this one. We’ll see.

Eagles Cry As Giants Prepare to Play in Super Bowl

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Column, Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sounds like a few members of the Eagles have been eating their Bitchflakes for breakfast the past few days. Despite going only 9-7 in the regular season and eeking past the Dallas Cowboys and Eagles for an NFC East crown, the Giants have made another magical late season run at what would be their second Lombardi Trophy in four seasons. As for the Eagles, well, they’re having a hard time coping with this fact. LeSean McCoy, who on Wednesday accepted the FedEx Ground Player of the Year award, had this to say about Giants’ unlikely Super Bowl appearance. “I really [...]

Brian Dawkins Likely to Retire an Eagle, but Could He Return as Player?

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Column, Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

Not exactly a whole lot is happening in Eagleland these days as the NFL prepares for its biggest game of the season on Sunday in Indianapolis. So when news items like this one come across the desk, well, we gotta roll with it. Paul Domowitch of The Philadelphia Daily News speculates that Broncos safety and former Eagles legend Brian Dawkins will call it quits this offseason. The 38-year-old Dawkins missed four of Denver’s last five games with a fairly significant neck injury, leaving his future in football much in doubt. “We’ll see,” he said. “I don’t even want to think [...]

McCoy Accepts FedEx Ground Player of the Year Award

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s not exactly the Heisman, or anything, but LeSean McCoy traveled from Hawaii to Indianapolis yesterday to pick up some the FedEx Ground Player of the Year award. McCoy didn’t exactly deliver a memorable Pro Bowl performance, rushing only two times and losing a fumble. But who cares about that (besides Aaron Rodgers)? McCoy earned the semi-prestiguous award after a terrific 2011 season in which he rushed for 1,309 yards and an NFL-high 17 touchdowns. Remind me again why the Eagles have yet to work out a long-term deal with this guy?

Bill Belichick: Football Genius…And Male Model?

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Column, Eagles | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

When you think about Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, well, a few words might come to mind: genius, cheater, winner, champion–just to name a few. For me, I can only think of one word–sex. And apparently, once upon a time, the marketing masterminds at Starter thought Belichick was pure sex, too. I’m sure you remember the Starter jacket–us twenty-somethings all had one at some point in our lives. I remember fourth grade girls in my class rocking them on the playground at recess everything from San Francisco 49ers to Charlotte Hornets Starter jackets. Those were the days. Long before the [...]

Reid Press Conference: Tried to Hire Steve Spagnuolo, Still Backs Juan Castillo

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Column, Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of the more interesting items to emerge from Andy Reid’s Tuesday afternoon press conference was the revelation that he offered former defensive assistant Steve Spagnuolo an opportunity to run his defense. Spagnuolo, obviously, declined the invitation prior to landing in New Orleans. Even had the Eagles lured Spags, Reid said the Eagles would have retained the services of Castillo. “If you could have two great coaches on defense that’s better than one,” Reid said. It’s a bit of an interesting dynamic because Reid would have almost certainly demoted Castillo if Spagnuolo had accepted the offer, but now he must [...]

Antrel Rolle Channels His Inner Fred-Ex, Says He “Expects” Giants to Win Super Bowl

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Column | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of the most overrated Giants has a message for all you faitful football followers out there. Antrel Rolle wants you to know he doesn’t just think the Giants have a chance on Sunday against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, but that he “expects” his team to win. “We wouldn’t have boarded the plane if we didn’t expect to win,” Rolle said. “I think that is the bottom line.” A player exuding confidence in his team or making brash predictions isn’t exactly a novel concept these days. In fact, quotes like Rolle’s are almost to be expected. But [...]
