Yesterday I wrote a little bit about how former Eagles’ scout turned NFL.com writer Daniel Jeremiah ranked Eagles quarterback Michael Vick as the third best in the NFC East behind Eli Manning and Tony Romo. I don’t agree, but fine.

Jeremiah’s latest pieces ranks another member of the Eagles’ offense, but this time his conclusion is a bit more Philadelphia-friendly.

Jeremiah rates Eagles running back LeSean McCoy as one of the ten best players in the NFL under the age of 25. Here’s what Jeremiah had to say about McCoy:

McCoy’s first two seasons in Philadelphia were very solid. He took his game to an entirely new level in his third year. He ran for 1,309 yards and led the league in both rushing TDs (17) and rushes over 20 yards (14). He also hauled in 48 balls for 315 yards and three TDs. He is the NFL’s most elusive open-field runner. He has rare stop and start quickness and he doesn’t get enough credit for his ability to power through tackles. He also has worked to become one of the better pass-protecting running backs in the league.

According to Pro Football Focus, McCoy led all NFL running back in broken tackles last season, a testament to his combination of power and elusiveness. It feels like McCoy’s been around for quite some time as he enters his fourth season in Philadelphia, but remarkably he is only a mere 23 years of age. And it’s also one of the reasons that despite reported progress between McCoy and the Eagles that a long-term deal has yet to be struck. The sky is the limit for McCoy as he figures to be one the game’s elite players for years to come. That’s something sure to make Osi Umenyiora smile.

Cosell had the opportunity to attend Eagles rookie camp this past weekend and came away with some interesting observations. Let’s start with his impressions of Jim Washburn and the Eagles’ new defensive additions.

I can guarantee you’ve never seen a coach quite like Jim Washburn, the old-school defensive line mentor who’s been dispensing his particular brand of knowledge for over 30 years. Washburn is one of the best in the business, and I love seeing his passion and attention to the smallest of details.

Washburn has two rookies to mold in 2012: Fletcher Cox, whom the Eagles moved up to take with the 12th overall pick, and Vinny Curry, a late second-rounder many teams had rated as a first-round talent. Cox and Curry were part of an Eagles draft that was one of the best in the NFL. There’s only one way to evaluate a team’s draft immediately after it happens, before the draftees have taken a snap on Sunday: Heading into the draft, how did you project each player’s transition to the NFL? Based on my film study, the Eagles’ brain trust (led by Howie Roseman and Andy Reid) did an outstanding job.

On Fletcher Cox’s fit with the Eagles:

Cox was the top defensive linemen in this draft class. He was primarily a tackle at Mississippi State, but what fascinated me most was his play at end. He aligned outside on significant snaps in each game I evaluated, and showed the pass-rush ability of a fine defensive end with his initial burst and overall quickness. Cox is a Washburn kind of player: position versatile with the skill set to become an outstanding pass rusher.

On Vinny Curry’s fit:

Curry played both defensive end positions at Marshall. What stood out on tape, and it’s not a characteristic you often see in college pass rushers, was his quick, active and violent hands. That attribute reminded me of San Francisco 49ers first-rounder Aldon Smith when he came out of Missouri last year, and we all know the success Smith had as a sub-package rusher with 14 sacks. Curry could well be a factor early in Washburn’s “Wide 9″ scheme, in which he has more space to build up speed and velocity.

He went on to praise the selections of Mychal Kendricks and Brandon Boykin.

You can check out Cosell’s full thoughts here.

Kind of interesting note here found in Sheil Kapadia’s “Moving the Chains” blog over on Philly.com.

Kapadia refers to this article by Daniel Jeremiah, a former scout for the Philadelphia Eagles that now works for NFL.com, that ranks the quarterback play for each division in the NFL. Jeremiah, by the way, ranks the NFC East as the third strongest division in terms of quarterback. But that’s not really the main story here.

No, the main story is how the former Eagles employee ranked the four NFC East quarterbacks. The results may surprise you.

Jeremiah writes that Eagles QB Michael Vick is the third-best quarterback in the NFC East. Interesting.

The QBs in this division are all must-see TV. Manning has two Super Bowl rings and a growing reputation as a clutch performer. Romo had an excellent 2011 season that should quiet some of his critics. Vick started poorly last season, but he became more patient and efficient during the last quarter of the season. RG3 landed with the perfect coach to take advantage of his talents.

Jeremiah is right that all four NFC East quarterbacks are a big draw, and as much as it pains me to say it, he’s right that Manning is at the head of the class. He’s been clutch and has two Super Bowl rings to prove it.

But I find it intriguing that he has Romo ahead of Vick. The Cowboys, like the Eagles, missed the postseason after finishing 8-8. And while Romo had a fine statistical season (he threw for 4,184 yards and 31 touchdowns), he again failed to give those statistics any meaning because Dallas missed the playoffs.

Romo’s statistics are eye-popping, but they aren’t significantly better than Vick’s. The Eagles quarterback threw for 3,303 yards in only 13 games played. That averages out to 254 yards per game which means Vick’s total yards would have eclipsed the 4,000 yard mark. While his touchdown numbers pale in comparison to Romo’s, remember that the Eagles had the services of LeSean McCoy who rushed for 17 scores.

Certainly a debate can be made for either Romo or Vick, but I find it interesting that a former Eagles employee goes with Romo. What do you think?

Time’s yours.
