Picture the Eagles as they are currently constructed. A team with a porous defense, uncertainty at the quarterback position, and an aging offensive line. And then you stop and think to yourself, “Thank God for LeSean McCoy.”

But a recent story story featured on Profootballtalk.com suggests that had it not been for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, not only would McCoy be in a different uniform, he would be in a Cowboys uniform.

That’s a chilling thought.

Bryan Broaddus, a former Dallas scout, explained to KRLD-FM via The Dallas Morning News how Jones’ meddling ultimately led the Cowboys to let McCoy slip away.

“That’s where they get in trouble. If you go back to the 2009 draft, they sat there and they had LeSean McCoy with a first-round grade. The problem was, they weren’t willing to take LeSean McCoy. That’s the issue. Don’t windowdress your board. They’re sitting there in the second round and they’ve got LeSean McCoy with a first-round grade on their board. That’s value.”

So as you contemplate the long-term future of an Eagles franchise led by Chip Kelly, Howie Roseman, and Tom Gamble, be grateful that an owner like Jones won’t be getting involved.

Some people may not care about what Eagles running back LeSean McCoy tweets. And some certainly may not care about the story that caught fire over the weekend when McCoy engaged in a very public and combative Twitter spat with the mother of his child. And so some may not care about the fallout, but McCoy responded today, taking blame for the incident.

In light of the recent events that played out over Twitter this past weekend, I would like to express how deeply sorry and remorseful I am to my family, the Philadelphia Eagles, my fans, and every young person who views me as a role model. This is not who I am as a person, nor the image I ever wanted to portray of myself. It’s definitely not the example I want to set for my son.

My Twitter account was not hacked. I take full responsibility and I apologize for trying to make it seem like it was not me. Due to my bad judgment and frustration, I allowed a very personal matter to be played out on a social network, of all things. It was immature and unprofessional for me to do so and to encourage others to join in.

As a parent , emotions are often magnified when there are stressful and emotional situations concerning them.I take great pride in being a good father and strive to one day be a great one. I’ve always done everything in my means to provide for my son financially, emotionally, and most importantly with my time and heart. I am sick over the fact that my actions have caused pain to him and all involved. I have decided to handle this matter privately from here on out and I thank everyone for their continued support.

Say what you will on the matter, but at least he didn’t play the “I was hacked” card. So at least there’s that.

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and McCoy both had some interesting comments about the events that led to Reid’s firing and what needs to happen moving forward. “I could see where some of the new guys didn’t buy into it anymore,” he said via 97.5 The Fanatic’s Matt Lombardo. “I think we’re a talented group. Team unity wasn’t there this year. We have to respect each other. [A] Lack of respect effected the guys and that makes you less inclined to play for each other.”

He continued by questioning the team’s overall professionalism.

“Guys who have been in this league and should understand how to be a pro didn’t act that way.”

Meanwhile, McCoy, an All-Pro in 2011, was also critical of his teammates.

“Certain guys with big money contracts didn’t lay it on the line,” he said.
