Here is another mock draft that I will analyze. This time I will be analyzing a draft by a very well known mock drafter, Walter Cherepinsky of WalterFootball.com. Walt is a Philly native and knows a lot about the NFL Draft and Prospects. If you want a good source for NFL mock drafts, WalterFootball is a good place to go. Now lets get on with the analysis.

Philadelphia Eagles: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
There’s no question the Eagles have to upgrade their offensive line. Their tackle position is in shambles. Jason Peters tore his Achilles; Demetress Bell was released after being a bust signing; while King Dunlap, who wasn’t any good, signed with San Diego. Even if Peters comes back close to 100 percent – a tough challenge, considering his weight – an upgrade could be made at right tackle, which would allow Todd Herremans to move back to his natural guard position. Eric Fisher would then become the heir apparent to Peters on the blind side.

This pick was a close call between Eric Fisher and Star Lotulelei. The latter was just cleared medically and should be considered a top-five prospect once again.

This exactly what I predict the Eagles will do with their first pick in the draft. Fisher is regarded by some as the best prospect in this draft, but most project the Chiefs taking Luke Joeckel, which means that Fisher will most likely drop to the Eagles. There are a lot of “ifs” sorounding the Eagles offensive line right now because of health issues and Eric Fisher would be one player the Eagles could count on.

Philadelphia Eagles: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State: Chip Kelly said there would be competition at the quarterback position. He probably meant between the signal-caller he just retained, Dennis Dixon and whomever he drafts in Round 2 or 3. I can’t see Nick Foles staying on the roster; he doesn’t fit the offense, and the Eagles can get a third-rounder at the very worst for him.
E.J. Manuel is the best fit for Kelly’s offense out of the signal-callers available at this juncture.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Eagles are very interested in Florida St. quarteerback EJ Manuel. I agree with Walt that Manuel is probably the quarterback that best fits waht Chip Kelly is trying to do in Philly, but I can’t see the Eagles taking a quarterback with the needs they have on defense and the fact that they adressed the offense in the first round. I do like Manuel, but I think the Eagles will go in another direction.

Philadelphia Eagles: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State: The Eagles have shown a ton of interest in Gavin Escobar – go here to see the 2013 NFL Draft Prospect Meetings. Chip Kelly loves utilizing tight ends in his offense, and the Eagles need one even after signing James Casey, given that Brent Celek is in decline.

It’s no secret that new Eagles Head Coach loves an abundance of talented tight ends, just like Bill Belichick does, but jsut like the pick before, I don’t think the Eagles will go this way. The Eagles have needs at safety, nosetackle, and cornerback and I just don’t see the Eagles drafting three offensive players in the first three rounds.

Philadelphia Eagles: Trevardo Williams, DE/OLB, Connecticut: Despite signing Connor Barwin, the Eagles have brought in several free-agent and draft-prospect rush linebackers. It looks like they want one more pass-rusher.

I really like this pick. As Walt said, it seems as if the Eagles want another OLB that can rush the passer and the get that with Trevardo Williams. My personally opinion is that the Eagles should try to bolster the defense as much as possible and this pick certainly helps.

Philadelphia Eagles: Brandon McGee, CB, Miami: It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Eagles add a corner in Rounds 3-5 despite signing Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams. Neither is a No. 1 corner, so Philadelphia may want someone who can develop into one.

Just like the last pick, I love this pick. After the signing of Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams, it seems as if the Eagles are going to look to add a developmental corner in the later rounds and McGee has the physical ability to develop into a number 1 corner and thats what the Eagles are going to want.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com has some interesting past work experience that may help shed some light on what the Eagles plan to do in April’s upcoming draft. You see, Jeremiah worked as a scout for the Eagles, so he may be a bit more privy to the team’s strategy as they prepare to make their pick at No. 4 overall.

Jeremiah cites the Eagles desire to get bigger and longer on defense in mocking Utah DT Star Lotulelei to the Eagles–a hypothesis that I happen to agree with.

Writes Jeremiah:

“The Eagles are focused on getting bigger on defense as they adjust their scheme with a new coaching staff. Lotulelei would form an excellent tandem with last year’s first-round pick, Fletcher Cox,” writes Jeremiah.

If new defensive coordinator Billy Davis implements a true 3-4 scheme or the 4-3 under look, a larger defensive tackle is going to be absolutely necessary. While adequate options will be available in the second round, the pairing of Cox and Lotulelei could provide the foundation of a potent defensive front.
