More Trouble for Garrett Reid and More Praise for Eagles’ Offseason
Geesh. Andy Reid‘s eldest son, Garrett, just can’t stay out of trouble. He’s been sent to the pokey after testing positive for narcotics while on an approved furlough. Some people just never get it, no matter how many chances they are given.

Clark Judge over at CBSsports.com is handing out hardware for offseason moves. Atop his five smartest moves are our beloved Eagles.
First, the trade for Jason Peters:
"“The Eagles were down to nothing at right and left tackles and talked about moving a guard or two there to plug the holes. Yeah, sure. Then they acquired Stacy Andrews and swung the deal for Peters. Brilliant. I haven’t seen a patient improve this much this fast since last year’s Miami Dolphins checked out of the emergency ward. At his best, Peters is a dominant pass blocker. At his worst, he is Jason Peters, 2008. He has a new contract, so he should be happy. He’s with a contender, so he should be happier. I don’t know that he’s the best left tackle in the game, as coach Andy Reid once said, but I do know he’s better than anyone the Eagles had at either tackle position a year ago.”"
If Peters can improve the off-tackle run game and be as good as Tra in pass protection, this trade will be graded a winner.
Part two has to do with JMac:
"“Maclin might be better than anyone they have at wide receiver, too. He’s a bigger version of DeSean Jackson, can return punts and kicks, has run the ball and was one of the top two wide receivers in the draft. So how does he last until the 19th pick? Call Al Davis. Don’t tell me the Eagles didn’t heed Donovan McNabb’s plea for more weapons. This guy averaged 202 yards per game. When they film the sequel to All the Right Moves I want Reid somewhere in the picture.”"
Very nice. I keep reading and hearing that Maclin may end up being better than DJax. Let’s not start carving his Canton bust just yet, but he has the look of a true #1 wide receiver, doesn’t he? I pulled the following quote about Maclin’s future from here:
"“I thought the Eagles did a nice job in round one selecting a receiver who I believe will in the not too distant future develop into a “bell cow” number one receiver within the league. He’s big, a confident catcher and is extremely dangerous runner in space. I don’t think that the Missouri offense did a very good job of taking advantage of Maclin’s very impressive attributes nor did they have the quarterback who could threaten the field vertically. He’s going to need some route running polish, but this guy is the absolute real deal.”"
However, if you read the rest of his draft assessment, it’s a bit puzzling. He calls Shady the most underrated player in the Birds’ draft, but then writes this:
"“I liked LeSean McCoy a great deal back in 2007 , but I just didn’t see any qualities and or skills that separated him from the pack at the running back position this past season.”"
What part of 1702 total yards and 21 touchdowns didn’t he like? McCoy is the same guy he watched in 2007, only better. Perplexing. He also predicts Cornelius will be the best player in three years.
His overall grade for the draft: C. Huh? He believes Maclin and Ingram will develop into stud playmakers and calls McCoy underrated, but all he can muster is a C grade. This is why paying attention to draft grades two weeks after the event is so pointless. Nobody knows a damn thing.
