This off-season is shaping up to be very entertaining. Speculation is swirling over Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper. If the Eagles are somehow unable to secure one or both of these receivers then they may need to pick one up in the first round. In some cases good defensive players have been around in later rounds so in theory they could get a good pass rusher in the second or third round. I happen to think they may be able to keep both receivers because they are well under the cap.
As you know, I have always maintained the Eagles need a great pass rusher that would compliment their defense. Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Trent Cole has been with the Birds for 12 seasons and led the team in sacks with eight. That my fellow Eagles fans is an anemic stat. We need more sacks to be completely effective on defense. Cole at age 32 is on the tail end of his storied career but would be the perfect mentor for the right inside or outside linebacker if the Eagles can get one.
But in my newest post-Super Bowl mock draft, facilitated through the Mock Draft Simulator at Fanspeak.com, I let the simulator choose the Eagles first pick. I wasn’t surprised but wanted to let you know I did not choose the player. He was the first available player on the list.
