C.J. MOSLEY – Alabama
First Round, Pick no.22

Inside linebacker is not a weak spot for the Philadelphia Eagles. An edge rusher, a safety, a cornerback or even a wide receiver would make more sense here, but CJ Mosley is too good of a prospect to pass.

Mosley has a great frame for a linebacker (6′ 2″, 33.5-inch arms, 10.73-inch hands). At 235 pounds, he’s not thin but he has room to add bulk and become stronger – something he needs to do.

Mosley has high football IQ level and rarely finds himself away from the play. He needs to become tougher, but that has not held him from being a good tackler. Blitzing is not his thing, but he does an adequate job when he goes after the quarterback, especially when he shoots the A or the B gap.

Playing good in coverage is a plus for linebackers and Mosley has no problems when he has to drop back. Although he is far from perfect, he has the physical skills and the awareness required when playing in coverage.

Chip Kelly has said that the Eagles want to “develop depth” behind DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks. Mosley can start from day one, but in Philadelphia he could sit and learn from Ryans and serve as his backup, before assuming a bigger role.
