Philadelphia Eagles And New York Giants Exchanging Words

“Last year is last year. I don’t feel like there was much to really battle with last year in our division.” – Antrel Rolle

The Philadelphia Eagles being defending NFC East champions apparently doesn’t earn any respect amongst divisional foes. On Monday afternoon, New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle blasted “bulletin-board” material for the world to see.

The timing for Rolle’s remarks is certainly interesting. Particularly because the war of words between the two franchises has escalated the last couple of seasons and Giants head coach Tom Coughlin seems like a dictator on that type of behavior. Let’s be clear though about one thing. Antrel Rolle’s comments were 100% true. Last season is in the past, and the division had a down year.

"“Everyone in the division is the team to beat”- Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara"

The NFC East has been mired in mediocrity for quite some time now, whether any of the fan-bases choose to accept it or not. Has anyone watched the Washington Redskins play this season and thought, “That’s a Super Bowl caliber franchise there.”

The Dallas Cowboys under head coach Jason Garrett have a record of 8-11 in the month of December. The New York Giants have actually only had one losing season in the past 10 years, but have only made the playoffs once in the past five years.

The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t won a playoff game since 2008 despite making the playoffs three times since (hosting two games). For a division that has a combined 12 Super Bowl victories, I’d say Antrel Rolle was pretty accurate when he says the division was weak.

"“We’ll find out on Sunday,” Boykin said. “That’s all I have to say about that.”"

was asked about Rolle’s comments earlier in the week, he was succinct in his response and touted the company line. Common candy-bar…step up to the plate and swing for the proverbial fences! No one wants to wait until Sunday night for a response.

Perhaps Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy needs to take to Twitter and pull out some of his magic on the situation. After all, McCoy has rushed for over 800 yards against the Giants in just 10 games. But much like his play on the field this season, the silence is deafening.

Two seasons ago LeSean McCoy and former New York Giants defensive-end Osi Umenyiora had a memorable tiff that went public prior to the first regular-season meeting in 2012. Umenyiora tweeted,”Happy Mothers Day LeSean McCoy” and LeSean McCoy fired back by stating, “I think he is a ballerina in a Giants uniform.” School-yard banter sure is funny to watch from a fan’s perspective and added some spice to the divisional games.

And while I have little to no problem with what Rolle said, Prince Amukamara and former Eagle (and current Giants corner) Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie took to Twitter Tuesday with this gem of a post. Clearly Rodgers-Cromartie forgets to realize that he does not have a Super Bowl ring as a player (Prince Amukamara has a ring as a member of the 2011 Giants). Maybe DRC can give the Eagles franchise some money back for being completely useless as a player here in Philadelphia. Now, for the sake of our entertainment, I can only hope that members of the Eagles respond with something other than, “No comment”.
