Philadelphia Eagles Nick Foles Trade Scenario

Speculation has been running wild so far this off-season, and for the most part I’ve been doing my best to stamp out the little blazes before they become wild-fires. In short, there continues to be a myriad of scenarios being written about how Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles are trading up for a heisman quarterback (when the track record of heisman quarterbacks in the NFL is abysmal). There are stories where the Eagles have set their sights on another quarterback draft prospect (the latest is Brett Hundley). I’ve even read reports where the Eagles would likely be talking to recycle quarterbacks who have yet to hit their stride in the NFL – such as Robert Griffin III.  I’ve even seen one suggestion where the Eagles simply promote quarterback Matt Barkley just to see what he’s got.
Okay, I get it.  It’s the off-season and if there is a time for speculation, now is the time.

More from Eagles Draft

But if we’re going to change the starting quarterback, let’s discuss what that means in terms of momentum of this team first, shall we?   I’ve read breakdowns on Nick Foles that describe him as non-athletic, unable to complete the deep pass, fragile, bad mechanics, and simply unable to deliver.  I’m not an expert in analyzing the delivery of a quarterback’s motion at the level of the originator this type of breakdown seems to be, but I just don’t see it.  This unathletic quarterback described just doesn’t stand up to the main statistic in the NFL, the win column.  Since Chip Kelly has taken over the team, Nick Foles record has been 15-4 (with 0-1 in playoffs).  His Rating over that period has been 95+.   He’s tossed 40 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 5,054 yards in regular season.  He’s also tossed two touchdowns zero interceptions and 195 yards in post season.

So if your goal is to just get rid of the guy and ignore the consequences of your actions, stop now.   I probably have nothing to offer you.  To do anything at quarterback, the team must believe it is upgrading.  Someone has to start at quarterback, and if it’s not Nick Foles, it should be someone who is better than Foles. Otherwise, why do it?
