Although it’s extra rewarding that the Philadelphia Eagles‘ signing of DeMarco Murray came at the Dallas Cowboys’ expense, and although expectations are high that it’ll pay off in dividends, nothing’s a sure thing when it comes to Philly and free agents – especially running backs.

In fact, a signing of this magnitude at that position is quite rare for this longstanding franchise. For the last couple decades, thanks to some savvy drafting of the likes of Duce Staley, Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy, et al, it’s been a moot point until now.

But as the team’s top signing heads into his first showdown with his former team on Sunday – and with the verdict still out on whether he pays off – let’s take a look at some other running backs where the Eagles got their money’s worth.
