The 0-2 Philadelphia Eagles enter a must win game against the New York Jets banged up defensively. The teams just announced their inactive players for the game and both will be down some key starters. The Eagles had 10 players listed on the injury report this week after being fairly healthy the first two weeks of the season. Here are the seven players that will sit out today’s game against the Jets, from the Eagles Insider Twitter account:
It’s a mild surprise that DeMarco Murray is inactive considering reports last night said he would play Sunday. With the absence of Murray the Eagles will be faced with replacing four starters. Ryan Mathews will start in place of Murray. Expect Darren Sproles role to increase as well. Also missing on offense is Josh Huff who injured his hamstring late this week and tested it pre-game. More targets should come Nelson Agholor and Riley Cooper’s way. Wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu returns after missing last week with a concussion. He figures to play primarily on special teams.
Brandon Bair will start in place of Cedric Thronton who broke his hand last week against Dallas. Thornton’s back up, Taylor Hart is also out with a shoulder injury opening the door for Bair to make his first NFL start. DeMeco Ryans and rookie Jordan Hicks will start inside for the Eagles defense in place of Mychal Kendricks and Kiko Alonso. Kendricks injury is deemed minor unlike Alonso however no long term decision has been made on his playing status.
The Jets come into this game banged up too but will have Darrelle Revis in the lineup despite battling a groin injury this week. The team will also have starting running back Chris Ivory in the lineup today. Here is the teams list of Inactives via the Jets official Twittter account:
The Eagles defense catches a break with Eric Decker inactive today but they should have their hands full with Brandon Marshall. Rookie wide receiver Devin Smith is active for the first time in his career after suffering a rib injury this preseason. Smith is a speedster so look for the Jets to take a shot or two deep with him today. Overall the Jets have most of their starters in the lineup and should be good to go.
