Fourth Quarter
On 3rd and 9 Bradford steps up and hits Ertz for the 1st down. A couple of plays later, DeMarco Murray moves the sticks with a nice run between the tackles. Faced with another 3rd and long, the Eagles come out and run a screen to Josh Huff that goes absolutely nowhere. Horrid play call there by Chip Kelly. Sturgis predictably misses the 50 yard field goal, and the Eagles still trail by 5.
The Panthers takeover and thread together another productive drive. Newton hits a number of throws before taking a read option carry into the Eagles red zone. Fletcher Cox snuffs Stewart, before pushing the pocket to force and erratic throw on 3rd down. Good coverage across the board as the Panthers are forced to try the field goal. Graham Gano comes on to hit the 35 yarder to extend the lead by 3. It’s still just a one possession game, however. 24-16.

The Eagles get the ball and don’t do much with it. After a quick conversion, Kawann Short bursts through the middle for a sack setting the Eagles back. Bradford can’t find Miles Austin as he mis-anticipates the route and the Eagles punt. With roughly 7 minutes left in the game the defense is going to have to come up with a big stop to give any hopes of a comeback.
The Panthers move the ball and chew 4 minutes off the clock. The Eagles defense finally holds up around midfield, and the Panthers are forced to punt. The offense takes over inside the 10.
The Eagles offense takes over and Bradford is sacked on 1st down, coughing up the ball in the process, though the Eagles retain possession. On 3rd and 16 Bradford throws a pass intended for Jordan Matthews. The refs throw the flag for pass interference, however, because the ball is deemed to be tipped, the flag is picked up. Kelly correctly challenges, as the ball was not tipped, Bradford’s arm was hit on the throw. The referees reverse the call and the drive continues. The game essentially ends in poetic fashion, as on 3rd and 4th down Ertz and Austin drop would be first downs.
Carolina takes over and runs the ball, grinding the clock down to next to nothing before kicking a chip-shot field goal. The Eagles get the ball back and check down a few times before falling 27-16.
