The More Things Change For the Eagles, the More They Stay the Same

Commitment Issues
Who exactly is the starting running back for the Eagles? The smart money would be on Ryan Mathews, but if the NBC broadcast had any say on the matter, which I think three hours of Chris Collinsworth is plenty “a say,” it would be DeMarco Murray.
This isn’t tricky. Mathews and Darren Sproles definitely led the charge this week, and have both thoroughly outplayed Murray, but last week against the Buffalo Bills, there was a steady dose of Murray carrying the ball. I think it would too much forward-thinking by the Eagles’ coaching staff to play the rotation based on the match-ups.

So then, what is the deal?
Hard to say. Sort of. Murray barely saw the ball Sunday night, and wasn’t even looked at in a fourth down, goal line situation that only required one-yard. I mean, one yard yard is what Murray is best at getting. Murray is best suited for that type of situation. The fact that Chip Kelly didn’t give him the ball means they don’t trust him to get it done. It also means that Murray can be next on the list of players booted out of Philly. At least fans can turn it into a drinking game. A sad, misery filled drinking game.
