Philadelphia Eagles Free Agency Day One Grade

Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso traded to Miami
Former Eagles cornerback Byron Maxwell was lauded as a great pickup for the Eagles. His tenacity in the Legion of Boom secondary for the Seattle Seahawks had Eagles fans giddy with excitement. They were envisioning pick sixes, disrupted touchdown passes and turnovers. What they got was a cornerback that looked like he wanted to pretend to be on the practice squad and not contribute to the full contact version of football.
He was not the threat he was a short year earlier.
The former Eagles linebacker Kiko Alonso trade for Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy was and still is a head scratcher. Why would any general manager in their right mind trade the franchise-leading running back for a set of used tires with some dry rot showing? Alonso missed the entire 2014 season due to an ACL injury he received working out, not even playing.
Kelly traded the Eagles best running back of all time for a guy who didn’t even play the previous season… I’ll let that sink in for a minute.
Both disappointments were sent the Miami Dolphins and in return moved up five spots in the 2014 NFL Draft. It was an impressive and bold move by Eagles general manager? Howie Roseman.
