Philadelphia Eagles Free Agency Day One Grade
By Todd Duvall
Cornerback Ron Brooks
The Eagles seem like they have focused primarily on defense by rounding out the cornerback squad with Brooks. He’ll join Rowe, McKelvin Jaylen Watkins and JaCorey Shepherd. With the two veterans now in place the young bucks can learn a lot from them. It seems the Eagles plan to keep a deep bench at cornerback. Which has been a weakness of theirs for the past few years.
Quarterback Chase Daniel
Reunited and it feels so good! Yes, Pederson and Chase are together again. This was an almost given earlier in the offseason when talk of potential Eagles quarterbacks began. With Bradford locked down for two years you had to figure they would bring a young backup quarterback in or draft one. (Drafting a quarterback in later rounds isn’t out of the question.)
Daniel can help teach Bradford and any potential quarterback draftees Pederson’s offense. Plus it’s possible however unlikely he would win the starting job over Bradford but it will make for interesting preseason fodder since we all love to obsess over starting quarterbacks.
This move likely ends Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez‘ time in Philly. My guess is the Eagles are looking to see if there is any value for a trade out there before the outright cut him.
Welcome to the New Philly World Order. Day One is done. The Eagles are addressing the right positions and should give the fans a sense of relief. There is more work to be done so stay tuned and be sure to check back often as trades happen!
