Philadelphia Eagles: Ranking The Free Agent Signings
By Ryan Quigley
4. Leodis McKelvin
Leodis McKelvin could play a big role for the Eagles next season. He fits in Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz’s scheme like a glove and may very well be the Eagles’ starting cornerback opposite second-year player Eric Rowe in 2016. It’s his job to lose, but of course, this is subject to change. The Eagles are more than likely going to pick up a cornerback at some point in the 2016 NFL Draft to compete with him for the Eagles’ starting corner job.
Regardless of where he is on the depth chart, however, the 30-year-old corner brings a veteran presence to an Eagles cornerback group that desperately needs one. Aside from McKelvin, the oldest cornerback currently on the Eagles’ roster is Jerome Couplin at only 24 years old.
McKelvin is not a game-changing player, but bringing him in on a cheap, short-term deal is a step in the right direction for the Eagles’ secondary.
