Wendell Smallwood

Ryan Mathews is injury-prone and Darren Sproles is a role player. If Mathews misses significant time due to injury this season (which is very likely), rookie Wendell Smallwood will be the next man up.

Smallwood was selected in the fifth round (153rd overall) of this year’s draft out of West Virginia. Last season, Smallwood rushed for 1,519 yards and nine touchdowns for the Mountaineers. Smallwood is a quicker back with good vision and a willingness to catch the ball out of the backfield, which fits perfectly with what Doug Pederson wants from his running backs.

If Smallwood gets an opportunity, he could become a breakout fantasy player in 2016.
