Jason Kelce on Sam Bradford: “When he gets competitive, he gets real competitive”
Center Jason Kelce is ready to go and appears to be getting comfortable with the dynamics of the new offense.
Center Jason Kelce wasn’t even drafted until the sixth round in 2011 by the Philadelphia Eagles. Normally, when that’s the case, there are questions about how big of a role that selection will play in the success of his team. Five years and a NFL Pro Bowl appearance later (2014), Kelce will again anchor an offensive line that will be key in determining whether or not Sam Bradford stays upright, how quickly Carson Wentz develops and just how far this team is able to go.

With the arrival of Doug Pederson comes a re-introduction to the “West Coast Offense” (although a slightly different version than the one we saw with former head coach Andy Reid). Eagles fans had long grown tired of sweeps and shotgun based offenses that looked more like a “Spread formation” that most teams would employ at the collegiate level. Here’s an older but informative article concerning the differences between the two styles of play for those who may need a little more clarification.
With all this being said, Kelce and Bradford have been and will be spending a lot more time together as Bradford will be under center more often this season. In a recent video posted on Philadelphiaeagles.com, Kelce got some rare camera time to discuss a few things including his relationship with both Bradford and Wentz, teaming up with guard Allen Barbre and his admiration for his other teammates along the offensive line. If you want to check out the clip, it can be accessed by clicking here.
Kelce offered high praise for all three quarterbacks, offering that Bradford was a great team guy and that he and future starting quarterback had no issues. “He’s a very even keel guy at times” Kelce said of Bradford. “I mean when he gets competitive, he gets real competitive.” To this point, it appears that the attention Wentz has gotten and some of the cheers aimed in his direction haven’t bothered the Eagles’ starter. “He’s a great guy…he just wants to get back to winning games” added Kelce.

Of Barbre, Kelce was also complimentary. The two have shared the field together before, and Kelce was very warm when speaking of his ability to do so again. He also spoke very highly of his teammates along the front, praised everyone for their work ethic and mention and showed respect for Wentz’s humility and competitive nature.
It appears that the debacle that was last year’s offensive line is in the rear-view mirror and fans can expect steady play there this year. that should be music to the ears of any Eagles fan.
