Eagles: Injuries and a guess at the final 53 man roster
There are ten days until the Philadelphia Eagles welcome the Cleveland Browns to Lincoln Financial Field, so what do we know about the final 53 man roster?
Philadelphia Eagles fans are starting to get that feeling of excitement again. Real NFL football that actually counts is here in ten days, and the prognosticator in all of us is alive and well. We’ve determined, in our own minds, what the win-loss record will be, who’s making the Pro Bowl and how long it will be before Carson Wentz is under center. That’s fine, but before all of that, we’ve got to figure out who’s on the final 53 man roster.
“If he’s ready to go, then he’s our guy” – Doug Pederson on Lane johnson
That could be tricky. Lucky for all of us, we’ve got the Internet, the official team website and all of those email subscriptions to any website that has anything to do with NFL football. One thing we can say is e know who the Eagles’ quarterbacks are. Just don’t expect for two of them to play in this final pre-season game. Backup Chase Daniel starts, but how long he’s in there is anybody’s guess. “We’re not sure how many reps he will get” said head coach Doug Pederson on Wednesday.
Defensive end Vinny Curry is still nursing a left knee sprain. Defensive tackle Taylor Hart is nursing both his knee and ankle. Cornerback Leodis McKelvin has a minor strain that Pederson says is “nothing”. Offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo and running back Wendell Smallwood are both day-to-day with injuries. By Pederson’s statements, none of these injuries would keep anyone out if a real game was approaching, and he fully expects everyone to be back for game one.
Eagles
All of those guys are definitely on the team. As is tackle Lane Johnson, who the NFL has yet to hand down an official suspension to. At this point, do the Eagles prepare for the possibility that he may be available for game one? Pederson seems to think so. “If he’s ready to go, then he’s our guy”.
So what are we to make of this final pre-season game versus the New York Jets? There are still some guys on the bubble. There’s still hope for some others (even if it’s a slim hope). Guys will give this one they’re all as coaches will have to make decisions as to who makes the final 53 man roster by 4PM EST on Saturday. Philadelphiaeagles.com released a story yesterday entitled A Best Guess At Eagles’ 53-Man Roster. Check it out when you get a moment. Does their roster look like yours?
One more thing of note. It’s awesome to see wide receiver Paul Turner‘s name on the list. He was one of those “longshots” when camp began. Whatever happens, he’s earned the opportunity to play somewhere. Let’s hope he’ll be in the midnight green.
