Pederson on Wentz: “I’m Walking in at 5:45, and he’s already in the film room”
The Carson Wentz era came faster than we thought, and the rookie quarterback is taking things very seriously.
Head coach Doug Pederson met with the media on Wednesday morning, and, while some of the media tried to discuss other topics, the most visited topic of discussion was, once again, that rookie quarterback. “I’m walking in at 5:45, and he’s already in the film room” Pederson said in reference to Carson Wentz.
Eagles
It’s funny how things change. Not too long ago much of the Philadelphia Eagles fan base hoped this day would come sooner than later. Well, as it turned out, it was sooner than any of us thought. The result? Many of those same fans are now under the impression that this was the worse case scenario. You’ve got to love a true fan’s ability to over-analyze. This has gone beyond analysis though. Things are now approaching the panic level.
Here’s something to think about. Yes, Wentz had about 20 snaps in the pre-season, but the Eagles’ brass, coaches and veterans have been with this guy all off-season after taking him with the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. For some reason, even though the fans are scared to death, nobody within the organization seems to share that same level of concern. Who knows what this team is seeing, but whatever it was, it made them feel comfortable enough to trade their starting quarterback Sam Bradford with eight days remaining before the start of the NFL season and no one withinin the Novacare Complex seems to be uncomfortable with the decision.
Here are a two tweets from Inside The Iggles‘ official Twitter page concerning this morning’s presser.
Ladies and gentlemen, Wentz broke two ribs in the team’s first pre-season game and remained in the game. That alone speaks volumes. Mentally, Wentz is prepared. Yes, he needs on-field experience, but this team is more talented than many realize. The kid’s got help. He doesn’t have to throw for 300 yards a game. He just needs to avoid throwing three or four interceptions a game. They have enough talent on offense to help him out. He has an excellent defense to back him up. He doesn’t have to win games alone.
Pederson understands, just like the rest of us, that this is a team in transition. He’s never been a new head coach. There’s also a new defensive coordinator and some new guys in the locker room. They’ve all had to learn new systems. They’re all in the same boat, so take a second and as Aaron Rogers put it, R-E-L-A-X. Things are going to be okay. We promise.
