2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper has Mike Williams falling to Eagles
By Ryan Quigley
So. Mike Williams to the Eagles, eh?
In his most recent mock draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has standout Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams falling all the way to the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 14.
In Kiper’s first mock draft, he projected the Eagles would take Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson. But in version 2.0, he projects the Eagles will try to squash their need for a playmaking receiver.
Kiper says if the Eagles do not add a reliable wideout this offseason, it will negatively impact Carson Wentz‘s development.
"Wide receiver has been a position of frustration for the Eagles, and it’s imperative they add at least one more reliable pass-catcher next year, or they risk slowing the development of Carson Wentz. This is a spot where the Eagles could be considering another position (tackle comes to mind), but the value isn’t there in some cases, and with Williams it definitely is. He’s a great, big target for Wentz to work with."
Williams finished his redshirt junior season with 98 receptions for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns. He leaves Clemson having recorded 177 receptions for 2,727 yards and 21 touchdowns over four years. Those numbers would likely be much higher had he not fractured a bone in his neck during the first game of the 2015 season.
The 6’3″, 225-pound receiver is a big-bodied pass-catcher with adequate speed and a reliable pair of hands. Williams excels in contested situations and uses his size and strength to generate extra yardage after the catch.

Also on the board during the Eagles’ selection in Kiper’s mock draft is Western Michigan wideout Corey Davis. As good as Williams is, Davis would also be a sound selection for the Eagles. Davis recorded 5,278 career receiving yards during his four-year career at Western Michigan, which is an FBS record. Kiper has Davis going off the board to the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 27 overall.
