Kenny Britt could be high-value signing for Philadelphia Eagles
By Ryan Quigley
Kenny Britt may not have a great reputation, but could make for a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Philadelphia Eagles.
It seems almost inevitable that the Philadelphia Eagles will sign at least one wide receiver in free agency. They’ve already been linked to several big-name wideouts including Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Kenny Stills. But Kenny Britt, another soon-to-be free agent, would also make a lot of sense in Philadelphia.
Britt has had a roller coaster of a career since being selected by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. After a respectable rookie season and a 2010 campaign that saw him record nine touchdowns, Britt’s 2011 season was cut short after tearing his ACL and MCL early in the season.
Following his recovery, Britt fell out of favor in Tennessee due to his poor work ethic and character concerns. Eventually he found himself in a Rams uniform in 2014. In three seasons with the Rams, Britt caught 152 balls for 2,431 yards and 11 touchdowns.

His best season to date came in 2016 when he recorded the first 1,000-yard season of his career. Partially responsible for Britt’s success in 2016 is Mike Groh, the Eagles’ new wide receivers coach. Despite poor play from the Rams’ quarterbacks, Groh was able to get the most out of Britt in his eighth professional season. Groh did similar work with Alshon Jeffery during his time with the Chicago Bears, turning Jeffery into a Pro Bowl receiver and helping Chicago’s passing offense rank fifth in the NFL in 2013.
Groh’s presence could give the Eagles a head start in negotiations if they wish to pursue Britt. Though there are better options in free agency, Britt would likely come at a much lower cost than Alshon Jeffery or DeSean Jackson. Britt and Groh seem to have developed good chemistry during their time in Los Angeles and it isn’t crazy to assume Britt would want to reunite with the coach who helped him play the best football of his career.
