The Philadelphia Eagles may be close to addressing their need at wide receiver.

Wideout Kenny Britt has given countless fans heartburn over the inconsistency that has plagued his career. But at any rate, Britt was reported to be in Atlantic City, a mere drive from Philly, toasting to a verbal agreement.

No, there is no confirmation that Britt has signed with the birds, but the coincidences are hard to overlook. The Philadelphia Eagles have made it clear that they’re going to address receiver this offseason., Britt is coming off a season where he notched career highs in receptions (68) and yards (1,002).

In his second professional season, Britt notched nine touchdowns and 775 receiving yards. Since he was drafted, Britt has been a threat because of his natural playmaking abilities. In eight seasons, Britt has accumulated 309 receptions, 4,881 yards and 30 touchdowns. That may seem low, but Britt has had issues with injuries over the course of his career. Over the last three seasons, Britt has only missed just one game. The receiver has evolved from a big-play dependent, to a consistent source of output.

There is nothing Carson Wentz needs more at this point in his career than receivers who will cultivate confidence. Last year, the Eagles had one of the worst receiving units in the entire NFL. Week after week fans groaned as Nelson Agholor dropped a pass or Dorial Green-Beckham couldn’t get separation. The birds signing Britt would be a step in the right direction, and could potentially serve to help the younger receivers find their way.

No, Britt has not officially signed and hasn’t officially made a verbal agreement with the Eagles. His apparent location in South Jersey does send interesting signals. Free agency starts on March 9. The Eagles are expected to pursue a starting receiver. Who knows if it will be Britt, Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson or Terrelle Pryor, but the Eagles will certainly be making calls.
