3. Ryan Mathews is out of here.

Many of us have asked, on many occasions, why Ryan Mathews is still on this team. As it turns out, the answer to that question isn’t anything too terribly mind-blowing. The Eagles, simply, can’t get rid of this guy while he’s still injured. Yes, you read that correctly. Mathews is still injured. Are you surprised? He’s always hurt. Add that to his fumbling issues (since he’s entered the league no one’s fumbled more) and his high price tag for 2017, and the writing’s on the wall. Scratch that. The writing isn’t just on the wall. It’s been graffiti tagged.

The NFL Draft is approaching, and debate continues to rage over Dalvin Cook of the Florida State Seminoles and Joe Mixon of the Oklahoma Sooners. Whether it’s one of these guys or someone else, the Eagles are expected to take a running back in the draft. Mathews, while talented, isn’t a long-term answer, and with the Eagles are preparing for the future, steps have to be made to cure the financial ills that continue hang over this team.

Once the doctors announce Mathews is cleared medically, you can best believe he’ll be out the door pretty soon afterwards. Such is life in the NFL.
