4. What does all of this mean for Vinny Curry?

You just can’t mention the defensive line anymore without bringing up Vinny Curry, the questions that surround him and the exorbitant amount of money he’ll be making. Once an alternate, Curry, now, has to be “the guy”. Brandon Graham is on the other side, and he’s beginning to flourish. Connor Barwin is gone. Long’s been added. Long was the second-overall selection of the Saint Louis Rams in 2008.

Following the 2014 season, where he missed all but six games due to injury, and the 2015 season, where he only played in twelve, Long played around 65 percent of the snaps in 2016 for the New England Patriots. Frustrated by a dip in playing time towards season’s end, Long wants to prove he’s still got the tools and the motor. Here’s something that isn’t really being discussed. If Long can return to form, does that relegate Curry to reserve duty? That won’t do much for the buyer’s remorse some of the Philly faithful is having at the moment.

There is a bright side. From what we’ve heard, Curry can play some defensive tackle if necessary which would put Fletcher Cox, Curry, Graham and Long on the field simultaneously (most likely in pass rushing situations). Truthfully, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
