NFL Mock Draft 2017: Eagles select cornerback in first round
By Ryan Quigley
Jerry Ugokwe, OT, William & Mary
Speaking of giant human beings, you can never have too much depth on the offensive line. Isaac Seumalo and Halapoulivaati Vaitai showed promise last season, but the Eagles need to prepare more for life after Jason Peters.
Look no further than Jerry Ogukwe.
This 6’7″, 321-pound monster began playing football as a junior in high school, but has developed well during his five years at William & Mary. With a year or two to learn, Ogukwe could end up being an exciting young lineman down the road.
Here’s a scouting report on Ogukwe, courtesy of NFL.com.
"STRENGTHS: Good-looking on the hoof with NFL frame and length. Makes use of his long arms and big hands. Plays with good foot quickness in his initial, lateral movement. Has ability to reach three-techniques with more coaching. Athletic enough to secure, climb and locate moving targets. Displays a nasty streak and looks to finish blocks with some attitude. Can be a nuisance to pass rushers when he strikes first and locks those long arms out in pass protection. Has experience at both tackle spots. Outstanding intelligence and moldable prospect. WEAKNESSES: Might need additional work and time to be able to catch up with the jump in talent he’ll see at pro level. Doesn’t always take the smart angle against twists and allows his protection to become leaky at times. Too often stiff-legged at contact in his pass sets, allowing open door for bull-rushers to create instant push. Plays with narrow base as drive blocker. Will lunge at the top of the pass rush arc rather than relying on technique. Needs to bring feet with him on angle blocks in order to maintain better contact balance."
