Lincoln Financial Field ranks as one of NFL’s top stadiums
If you’re truly an Eagles fan, you have to put a trip to Lincoln Financial Field on your bucket list.
Before there was a Lincoln Financial Field, there was Veterans Stadium. A smile typically crosses the face of any Philadelphia Eagles fans when you bring up “The Vet”. Yeah, that place was a dump, and that’s really why we loved it so much. There was “the 500 level”, a slab of concrete under the turf and a judge that sat in the bowels of stadium. His only job was to see the unruly fans who couldn’t conduct themselves appropriately on game day.
If you would have left it up to most of the Eagles fans, “The Vet” would still be standing and football would still be played there. Thankfully, there was some forward thinking and “The Linc” was the result. Recently, FoxSports.com ranked every NFL stadium, and Lincoln Financial Field made the top five, coming in at number four overall.
Here’s some of what they had to say:
“There’s something to be said for a solid, good-looking stadium with excellent sight lines and fast-moving security that’s located directly off I-95 in a stadium complex that has ton of parking.”
They also took the obligatory shot that always has to be taken at the Philadelphia sports fan. “And the awfulness of Philly fans is overrated. Like 95 percent of people are great. Those other 5 percent — well, they’re as bad as advertised. Eh, maybe it’s a 90/10 ratio.”
Lincoln Financial Field finished behind Arrowhead Stadium (third), CenturyLink Field (second) and, you guessed it, Lambeau Field.
Surprisingly Jerry Jones‘ cathedral to the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium came in at number 30. Then again, the article makes a good point. “In terms of stadiums as functional structures that exist to provide entertainment and enjoyment, AT&T Stadium ranks No. 1…..the football is secondary to restaurants, bars, restaurants and bars that surround the path players take from the locker room to the field”.
It may be time to change some flight plans and make a trip to Philly to see a ball game.
