10 of the most amazing moments from the Eagles’ 2016 season
1. Fletcher Cox signs a massive extension.
Perhaps the biggest story of the 2016 off-season was the contract negotiations that went on between the Eagles brass and the team’s best player on defense. The goal was simple. Make sure Fletcher Cox remained with the Eagles. Talks between the two sides went on for a while, and some were worried about whether or not a deal would ever get done. It did, and when the ink dried on Cox’s brand new deal, the defensive tackle was $103 million richer.
Cox is now signed through the 2022 season. With football being the only thing he had to focus on, the 2016 season led to the defensive tackle making his second consecutive Pro Bowl. In 2017, he’ll be lining up next to the newly-acquired Timmy Jernigan. With that being said, the Eagles will have, arguably, the best tandem of starting defensive tackles in the entire NFL. Cox will also be more comfortable as he enters his second season in defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz‘s scheme. With him anchoring the defensive line and unit, there’s plenty of reasons to be excited as the start of the 2017 season approaches.
