Inside The Iggles: Many of us, myself included, thought Kirk Cousins might find his way to San Francisco with Kyle Shanahan. How is he adjusting to the new O.C. and how good can he be?

Riggo’s Rag:

Kirk Cousins‘ new offensive coordinator is Matt Cavanaugh, who was previously his quarterbacks’ coach. Jay Gruden has been Cousins’ coach since 2013, and he will have an increased influence on play calling. There’s a little bit of adjusting to be made with the loss of Sean McVay, but it’s not like we’re starting from square one.

Then again, if you didn’t know any better, you’d think exactly the opposite after watching Kirk Cousins play this preseason. He was rather horrendous against equal competition, showing a lack of rhythm and fluidity that wasn’t previously missing from his play. With his new weapons, Kirk Cousins and the offense has crazy upside. Some would say unparalleled upside, but it’s apparent there will at least be a slight learning curve for Cousins.

Infamous for his slow starts each season, Cousins needs to buck that trend with the NFC East growing stronger and stronger. His issues as of late are more related to a lack of chemistry with his new weapons rather than the turnover at offensive coordinator. Jay Gruden hasn’t yet revealed his regular season playbook, so things may pick up against the Eagles. Still, one thing is certain. Cousins has to improve. His situation demands it, and the landscape of the NFC East demands it as well.
