Eagles rookie running back Corey Clement is expected to get some carries this week.

As week three approaches, Philadelphia Eagles fans are eager to see what the game plan is this week. As they head into their first home game, most are curious to see how they bounce back from a hard-fought loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Some would like to see the blitz being maximized versus Eli Manning. Others would like to see a better balance in the offense. One thing is for sure though, the Eagles will likely test out something new in the run game.

Eagles rookie running back Corey Clement was a longshot to make the roster. When the 2017 NFL Draft wrapped up, the Wisconsin alum got the call with the news that the Eagles planned to sign him. Just a couple months later, Clement is in a good position to get a small workload on gameday.

Carries for Clement:

After an impressive preseason, Philadelphia’s looking for ways to utilize the rookie. So far, he’s been solid on special teams. Now, they could be finally looking to use him on offense. NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger joined Philadelphia sports radio 97.5 The Fanatic to discuss Clement’s role. Take a look at what he said:

"“Mark it down right now, Corey Clement is getting carries this weekend,” Baldinger said. “It might be four. (It) might be six, but he’ll rush the ball.”"

So there’s no guarantee that Clement gets an entire workload of carries, but it sure sounds like he will get a chance to prove his worth. Clearly, the Eagles have struggled to find a balance in the offense. Carson Wentz has had to drop back 99 times in two weeks, which is the second-highest total behind Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Believe it or not, the Eagles current rushing leader is Wentz with 61 yards. Between Darren Sproles, LeGarrette Blount and Wendell Smallwood they have 33 carries for 104 yards and zero touchdowns. Some could argue that the struggles from the offensive line have prevented the Eagles from running. Others may say that outside of Sproles, the Eagles simply do not have the talent to run the ball.

Clement should get his fair share of carries against the New York Giants and could possibly turn some heads. The expectations right now should be kept in check but there should be no reason to not remain optimistic about him. Hopefully, the Eagles can establish the run game and find value in their undrafted rookie this week.
