The NFL Network released their power rankings for week five, and the Eagles sit high.

We are just about a quarter of the way through the 2017 NFL season already. The Philadelphia Eagles are sitting alone at the top of the NFC East with a 3-1 record. So far the second year for the Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz era has been pretty great. Aside from a couple of injuries and mistakes, the Eagles have done an impressive job in 2017.

Although the Eagles had the same hot start in 2016, this year looks a bit different. It all starts with experience. No more first-year coaching or signal calling. They have more weapons for the franchise leader that is Wentz. The protection up front on the offensive line has been outstanding. The defensive line has been dominant and the secondary has held its own for the most part.

Last season the Eagles were deemed as lucky. Everyone suspected that Wentz would eventually come back down to earth after a 3-1 start and he sure did. They ended the 2016  season with a record of 7-9. Now, with this year’s hot start, NFL fans are hesitating to show respect the guys in midnight green. Everyone except for the analysts over at NFL Network.

The rankings:

Who doesn’t love a good old power rankings list? Especially when your favorite team finds their way into the headline. According to Elliott Harrison of NFL Network, the Eagles are sitting pretty at number three overall in the NFL power rankings.

Here is what Harrison had to say about the Eagles:

"High ranking for the Eagles. However, with what we know at this point in the season, how can Philadelphia not be here? Doug Pederson’s outfit is tied for the best record in the NFC, leads the East and seems to have fixed the glaring weakness that every fan, blog and LinkedIn piece was fixated on during the preseason: the ground attack. In Week 3, the Eagles ran the football 39 times — the most in three years. Against the Chargers, Philadelphia eclipsed that total while piling up 214 yards rushing. Glad the coaching staff took my advice and actually started using Leggie Blount."

Keep pushing:

Opening the season up with three road games and two division matchups is not easy. The Eagles surely made the most of it and came out with the second-best outcome possible. There is no better position to be in than being 2-0 in the NFC East with two wins on the road as well.

The Eagles have already overcome some of the mistakes that they made way too often last season. As they head into week five, they need to hold on to the momentum and prove that they belong at the top of the conference. With the Dallas Cowboys and Washinton Redskins right behind them, there is hardly any room for mistakes. Being listed at number three is great recognition for the Eagles but now it’s time to build on top of the momentum.
