Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox ruled out for second week in a row
Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is officially out once again.
The Philadelphia Eagles will officially be without their superstar defensive tackle Fletcher Cox for the second week in a row on Sunday. He suffered a calf injury two weeks ago when the Eagles defeated the New York Giants. Although he was originally listed as day-to-day, Cox will be taking it easy on his leg.
There is no official timetable on his return, but the Eagles seem to be overly-cautious with Cox’s health. Originally they planned on holding him out for a few practices, but a few practices turned into a couple of weeks. His injury may not be considered too serious, but the Eagles are not attempting to risk his long-term health.
Stick to the plan:

Last week the Eagles started veteran tackle Beau Allen to replace Cox. The fourth-year veteran finished out his solid day with two total tackles and a sack. One of his tackles ended up being for a five-yard loss. Although losing Cox is big, Allen has been more then serviceable for the Eagles defense.
The Eagles go up against a weak Arizona Cardinals offensive line this Sunday. The Cardinals are currently tied for the most sacks allowed through the first four weeks with 17 total. The amount of pressure defensive lines got on Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer has been a key reason why they struggled this season.
Lets not forget about the Cardinals weak run game either. With star running back David Johnson out, the Cardinals are ranked 31st in the NFL for rushing yards. They are currently averaging 57 yards per game, which is ranked last in the NFL.

As long as the Eagles can eliminate big plays in the run game, they will most likely completely shut it down. Aside from a few big plays let up in the second half, the Eagles defense has looked pretty solid without their superstar defensive lineman. The return of Cox may not be this week, but his absence shouldn’t be much of a worry this week.
