Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson praises Nelson Agholor on Twitter.

What a roller coaster of a career it has been for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, Nelson Agholor. When he was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, he was expected to perform like a first round pick right away. Unfortunately, he got off to a slow start in year one. He finished his rookie season with an underwhelming 23 receptions for 283 yards and one touchdown.

He struggled to redeem himself in his second season as well. Agholor was starting to be labeled as a bust by the second half of his sophomore season. Although most of his on-field issues were more mental than physical, the Philadelphia fan base was not too thrilled with how things were going.

During the 2017offseason, plenty of fans were hoping the Eagles would be done with the Agholor experiment. But after spending the offseason off the grid and out of the spotlight, Agholor was working hard to win the respect and trust of his teammates and fan base. The fan base may not have recognized that he was progressing, but one former NFL wide receiver did. Remember Chad Johnson, also known as ‘Ochocinco’? Well, he seems to be very fond of Agholor.

The confidence:

When Agholor was dealing with his mental issues last season, Johnson reached out to him subliminally on Twitter. Apparently, the former star receiver saw something in Agholor that football fans and analysts did not. Fast forward a year later and Agholor has become a problem for secondaries.

So far this season, Agholor has a touchdown in four of the six games the Eagles played. Through his first two seasons in the NFL, he has a total of 648 yards and two touchdowns. In his first six games this season, he has 321 yards which are just about half the amount of yards that he had in his first 28 games.

Clearly, Johnson was right about the confidence factor in Agholor’s game. He came into training camp this offseason with a whole new attitude. He told the media that was putting his mental issues behind him and focusing on his new beginning. After a full offseason of forming a chemistry with quarterback Carson Wentz, Agholor has become one of the most reliable targets on the Eagles offense.
