Philadelphia Eagles 2017 NFL Draft mid season grades
Shelton Gibson, WR, 5th Round.
When Shelton Gibson was drafted out of West Virginia, many were thinking the Eagles had the next DeSean Jackson on their hands. He is a quick, undersized receiver who could break out with a major play down the field at any moment on offense. He struggled early on with simple tasks like catching the ball. Spectators would shrug it off as rookie jitters, others saw it as a bad sign immediately.
Gibson ended up having a very underwhelming training camp and preseason. The explosiveness the Eagles thought he would bring to the offense was nowhere to be found. He also didn’t prove to be much of a contributor on special teams even though he was a returner back in college. Somehow, Gibson ended up making the final roster, but he has yet to be active on gameday. The plan for Gibson’s future on this roster is unknown, but as of right now this draft pick looks like a total waste.
