Philadelphia Eagles: Wide Receivers are flying under radar
Zach Ertz
Code-name: The Safety Net
The bizarre thing about the Eagles score against the Broncos is that the Eagles were able to do so without the playmaking Tight End, Zach Ertz. Ertz is unequivocally Wentz’ “safety net.” Ertz was the most-targeted tight end of the second half of the 2016 campaign. This hasn’t slowed, as he leads the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Even though he missed the last game with a lingering hamstring injury, Ertz has proven to be one of the more dangerous pass catchers. Not only among tight ends, but Ertz is also soaring through the entire league. His 6 touchdowns are tied for third in the league overall and first in the league for tight ends. His 528 yards are second only to Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, placing fifteenth in the league.
Ertz isn’t just a “wing-man.” He is having a breakout season. A healthy Zach Ertz has shown that he can be one of the league’s premier tight ends.
