What really sparked a Philadelphia Eagles second-half turnaround?

It’s the question that’s been on the minds of quite a few Philadelphia Eagles fans. What in the world got into this team in the second half of their Week 11 blowout victory over the Cowboys?

There aren’t many who probably could have guessed that the Philadelphia Eagles would have fallen into a 9-7 hole at halftime after they came out swinging with a touchdown on their opening drive on Sunday Night Football. That’s exactly what happened though. What followed was one of the most dominating team performances of recent memory.

The Eagles rattled off 30 unanswered points in the second half to hand the Dallas Cowboys a 37-9 loss and their most embarrassing defeat ever at AT&T Stadium. It was a performance that sent most of the Cowboys fans filing out of “Jerry’s World” midway through the third quarter. That just leads to one question?

What in the world got into “The Birds” in the locker room?

Here’s a word from QB1.

Eagles second-year quarterback Carson Wentz met with the media, and as you might imagine, that was one of the topics of discussion. “We didn’t really have our mojo going there but we got back on in the second half” said Wentz.

Is it really that simple though? As hard as this may be to believe, during the Eagles eight-game winning streak, they’ve rarely put four complete quarters together. There’s been a spurt here or there, but there can be stretches where it seems as though much isn’t being accomplished on offense.

Here’s more of what Wentz had to say.

"I think the biggest thing was just staying with the game plan. They made plays and we didn’t, later in that first half. We just had to stay with what we knew we could do, just kind of execute better and stay out of some of those third-and-long situations. The Cowboys made some plays there in the first half and we knew we left some out on the field."

Philly scored touchdowns on four straight possessions, and without a healthy kicker to rely on, they employed the option to go for two-point conversions. That led to more success as the Eagles would convert on three of their four attempts. Just in case you’re keeping score, Wentz still hasn’t thrown an interception in the red zone.

For more of their dominating performance, who else might we get yet another theory from?

"The O-Line came out kind of angry, we just kind of relied on those big boys up front, the three backs that we have, Kenjon (Barner) too making a couple of plays. We can just kind of ride those guys when we need to, especially on a field where we’re kind of running down their D-Line, so they made my job easy today. Those guys all kind of bring a different skill set, and they do such a good job and the big boys up front lead the way with that and Kenjon in the passing game and can do some other things out of the backfield so we can really spread those guys out and use them at what they’re best at and like I keep saying they make my job a heck of a lot easier."

Philly’s next date is a home contest against the Chicago Bears. We’ll all have to wait and see if they can carry the momentum into that one and keep it going for four quarters.
