It looks like it could be the end of an era for the Philadelphia Eagles versus New York Giants rivalry.

Some big news hit the football world this week. Philadelphia Eagles division rivals, the New York Giants will bench their star quarterback Eli Manning for Geno Smith. Yes, you read that right. As crazy as it sounds, a lot of people sort of expected a big change on the Giants offense. But it just ended up happening a lot sooner than later.

The Eagles are set to take on the Giants in a few weeks for the second and final time this season. At that point, the Eagles will likely have the NFC East all wrapped up. Although the Eagles will probably be heavily favored to win that game, the real focus will be on the absence of Eli Manning against Philadelphia.

The 14-year veteran has a long and competitive history with the Eagles. He had his debut in 2004 against Philadelphia as a rookie. Since then, he has played against the Eagles two times every single year since 2004. In fact, Manning has started for 210 consecutive games for the Giants. Week 13 will be the first time that streak will be broken.

Manning’s reaction:

The Streak Comes to an end…

Clearly, Manning is filled up with emotion as he stands at his locker after breaking the news that he will not start. It will be crazy to see a Manning-less Giants offense for the first time in a long time. Luckily, the Eagles got to face Manning a final time in their nail-biting week three win in the beginning of the season.

It’s been a crazy NFL season, to say the least. The fact that the Giants are looking to move on from the face of their franchise for over 14 years may be one of the craziest things to happen. It looks like the Eagles will be getting a new enemy in New York for years to come next season. Who will be the new enemy?
