Eagles defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz plans to stay put in Philly… For now at least.

It has been quite a year for the Philadelphia Eagles. Especially for the defensive unit, which is recognized as one of the best in the NFL. The Eagles’ defense has been striving since the 2016 season. Although they were missing some key pieces last year, the front office made sure to acquire some quality talent to put the final pieces together.

For the majority of the 2017 season, the Eagles defense has been one of the most feared defenses in the league. The defensive line alone has made offenses re-arrange the entire gameplan to avoid the pressure up front. The secondary, which is also known as “Gang Green” has made it difficult for receivers to make big plays.

The major success of the Eagles defense has made their defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz a hot name in the head coaches market. As the firing of coaches has started as early as Monday, teams will now begin to start looking for someone to fill their vacant head coaching job. Could Schwartz be on his way out of Philadelphia after 2017?

Where is Schwartz’ head at?

Focused on L.A.

When Schwartz was asked about a possible head coaching job, he made it very clear that he is not worried about anything but this week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Obviously, he could reconsider his response at the end of this season, but at this time his heart is exactly where it belongs, in Philadelphia.

It is hard to tell if Schwartz would take a head coaching job elsewhere or not. After all, his first attempt with the Detroit Lions did not go so hot. He coached the Lions from 2009-2013 where he had a record of 29-51. He was fired after his fifth-season when they ended with a 7-9 record.

Schwartz could always get his second chance, but staying in Philadelphia would obviously be the smarter move. He already coaches one of the leagues most complete teams with an elite defense.

The post-season success of the Eagles could be the reason why Schwartz stays in or leaves Philadelphia. If he truly sees the Eagles as long-term Super Bowl contenders, then there shouldn’t really be a reason why he would leave. But as the rumors start to brew, you can count Schwartz out of taking a new job for right now.
