Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles may not be done just yet…

When you look at the 2017 NFL season-ending injury list, some big names pop up. Deshaun Watson, J.J. Watt, Dalvin Cook and many more. The Philadelphia Eagles have a few major names to that list too. Offensive tackle, Jason Peters and middle linebacker, Jordan Hicks. One guy in particular may have flown under the radar, though. That is Eagles running back and return specalist, Darren Sproles.

Sproles has sneakily been the Eagles most valuable player since he was traded here in the 2014 offseason. Not only was he a major threat in the return game, but he became the most consistent running back on the roster when the Eagles decided to trade away LeSean McCoy.

This season was set up to be Sproles’ last season in the NFL. When he went down with a torn ACL and a broken arm in week three, the Eagles fan base thought that was it. It was so early in the season and we though we might’ve just witnessed Sproles last snap as a pro in an Eagles uniform. That was until he hopped on Twitter to hint at a possible return. For further clarification, Sproles once again hinted at a return in this week’s episode of The Game Plan.

Will Sproles be back?

More than just a player, Sproles was also a major leader in the locker room as well. Even though he has been out since week three, he still has made his contributions to the team. While at home in San Diego, California, Sproles is keeping contact with his teammates. He texts Kenjon Barner on a daily basis to give him some motivation and some tips for success against the next opponent.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sproles was able to re-unite with his team in Anaheim as they prepare for the Los Angeles Rams. He was spotted on the field assisting running backs coach, Duce Staley with some drills for the backfield.

With the recent success of the Eagles this season, it is no surprise that Sproles would want to return. He never got the final send off that he wanted so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him play his final season in 2018. The big question is will he finish out on the Eagles, though?

Next: The Eagles need to stick to the run game against the Rams

If Sproles does plan a return in 2018, he will be set as an unrestricted free agent. The Eagles would have to bid on a one-year contract in order to get  Sproles back for the 2018 season. With how crowded the backfield currently is, they may not be able to set aside any funds for the veteran. It look’s like Sproles is definitley plotting  a return, but it is tough to tell if he will be finish out as an Eagle or not.
