Jerry Jones thinks fans seeing stars like Carson Wentz on the sideline is bad for the game.

Football is a game. That’s true. Sure, it’s a game we all love because we watch it, discuss it and some of us played it. For some, football is all of that and more. It’s also a business and how they make money. Throw Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in that category. Although his primary concern is the Cowboys, he understands the value of the NFL, and he wants to see the success of the league. He’s aware that having players like Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz on the field can be key to that success.

Even though Wentz is the offensive leader of one of his team’s chief rivals, Jones realizes his presence on the field is good for the overall success of the game. Budding rivalries like the one between the Eagles quarterback and his own are great for the game of football.

Here’s what Jones had to say.

Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, and he offered this on Wentz’s injury, a torn ACL.

"I don’t like the injury. As a Cowboy fan, as an NFL fan, we want these players on the field and competing with each other on that basis. He’s a big, strong guy now, it just reminds you how vulnerable that position is to getting hit. These guys don’t take hits the same way linebackers give them out or the same way running backs take them, or for that matter even receivers."

Wentz’s injury has obviously allowed Jones some time to reflect. To be honest, a man who’s had to watch his team saunter on following season-ending injuries to Tony Romo may even be thinking about the vulnerability of his own signal caller, Dak Prescott.

Jones spoke on that as well.

"The position of the quarterback on most runs are vulnerable to injury, so I would say to us or anybody else, {be careful of) building in any type of running game around the quarterback. Now, who am I speaking to? I’m speaking to our mirror. So while we want to take advantage of it, it is a part of his game, Dak can be very smart about it… All you’ve got to do is look at games and realize those defenses, when that quarterback tucks it up, they are taught to unload on him. That’s the opportunity to impact the game. That’s the game we play. Let’s just remember that when we’re running our game."

The Eagles took over in the second half of their first meeting with the Cowboys this season. They’d win by a score of 37-9. They meet again on New Years Eve. When they do, Nick Foles will be under center for the Eagles.
