Philadelphia Eagles cornerback, Ronald Darby apologizes for his Twitter rant from earlier this week.

Social media can be tough for someone in the public eye nowadays. Celebrities and athletes get the worst of it on a daily basis. For Philadelphia Eagles cornerback, Ronald Darby, he couldn’t help but feel like he was being treated unfairly after having an off game. Even though he acknowledged it was not his best day, he couldn’t help but feel frustrated with the feedback he was getting.

The young veteran took to Twitter to express his feelings towards the critics in his mentions earlier this week. Describing a select group of fans as “halfway fans”. Meaning that they only cheer when they are up, and kick you while you are down. While Darby sounded a bit sour in the situation, the truth is he isn’t wrong.

We are all aware that Eagles fans label themselves as passionate. But the label doesn’t exactly excuse some of the behavior towards players. It is expected for a fan to boo an opposing teams player no matter what. But how many fan bases boo their own player when he is having a down game? That is what goes down in Philadelphia. While sometimes it seems necessary, most of the time it is an overreaction.

The Argument for Darby:

The truth is, Darby had his worst game as an Eagle last Sunday against the New York Giants. Despite having what we label his worst game in midnight green, he still made plays that completely shifted the momentum of the game. His flaws throughout the game made some of us forget that his interception late in the second quarter gave the Eagles a new life.

The Giants were leading 20-7 when Darby snagged an interception from Eli Manning with a decent return to put the Eagles offense in excellent field position. Unfortunately, many fans forgot about the game-changing play from Darby because his mistakes seemed to have overshadowed his positive contributions.

While Darby did acknowledge that his rants seemed a bit childish, there should be no reason why he has to apologize. Criticism from a massive amount of people can be tough to deal with, especially when it’s from your own fans.

Next: Eagles plan for a blackout on Christmas

Eagles offensive lineman, Lane Johnson stated a few years back that it is discouraging when your own fan base is against you. Now Darby is starting to feel the same way and he couldn’t help but lash out. Despite his bad game, Darby has made it clear that you are either with him or against him. But either way, the hate will add the fuel to his fire that he plans on bringing out on Christmas night. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back out on the field.
