Philadelphia Eagles middle linebacker, Dannell Ellerbe is listed as questionable for Saturday.

The Philadelphia Eagles have had it rough this season when it comes to injuries. As shocking as that sounds, they were still able to maintain the number one seed in the NFC. The next man up mentality that they have played with all season has been incredible. Unfortunately, it feels like they are starting to run out of chances at some positions.

Every unit on the Eagles has had some sort of season-ending injury to a key player. Offense, defense, special teams, you name it. While every injury has been a major loss, there was always somebody stepping in to maintain the high-level of play the Eagles have kept going all season long.

The middle linebacker has been a tough position for the Eagles to keep up with in recent seasons. While their young veteran Jordan Hicks has shown promise of a key franchise player, he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his three years in the NFL. This season was no different as he was ruled out for the year with a ruptured Achilles.

He was backed up by Joe Walker who ended up getting himself a trip to the Injured Reserve as well. The last man standing was the nine-year veteran, Dannell Ellerbe who came on to the Eagles not too long ago. A couple weeks back he was officially named the starting middle linebacker when Walker was ruled out. But now this week, Ellerbe has some injury problems of his own.

Ellerbe is questionable for Saturday…

For the last two weeks, Ellerbe has been nursing a hamstring injury. Luckily, he had an extra week without a game to rest up. Unfortunately, he still doesn’t seem ready to get out and play. He was limited in Wednesday and Thursday’s practices despite being suited up and ready to go. On Thursday, the Eagles officially released their injury report for Saturday and Ellerbe was one of two names listed as questionable.

If you take a look at the Eagles current depth chart, Ellerbe is a lone wolf in the middle. The situation at middle linebacker could very well be the most concerning position heading into Sunday. The Eagles will most likely have to take a chance at moving one of their outside linebackers inside.

Next: Douglas, DeFilippo to remain with Philadelphia Eagles (for now)

So who could the Eagles move? Obviously, they couldn’t afford to take Nigel Bradham or Mychal Kendricks out of their element. It is likely that somebody like Najee Goode would be the right candidate to move inside. He has had plenty of first-team reps, which gives him enough game time experience to give the Eagles enough confidence in the position. Although we are hopeful that Ellerbe will play, there is still a chance he could miss this week’s game.
