Former Patriots linebacker claps back at Lane Johnson
Former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi fires back at Philadelphia Eagles tackle Lane Johnson.
It’s officially been over a week since the Philadelphia Eagles dethroned the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. With the underdogs on top, of course, they are going to talk a little smack about their opponents. Eagles right tackle, Lane Johnson is never one to shy away from questions. When he was asked about what he thought about the Patriots, he was brutally honest, as always.
Johnson knows what winning a Super Bowl is like now. Something that the Patriots have done quite often in the past decade. But he feels as though the Patriots do not really enjoy the wins and the actual process of it. He made multiple comments regarding the Patriots “robot-like” behavior in the media and how he doesn’t feel like players genuinely enjoy their time in New England.
Now understand that all of this is an opinion of Johnsons considering he has never played football for the Patriots. But from the outside looking in, it doesn’t seem like his opinion is too out of the ordinary. After all, the Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is as stern as they come. So stern that the NFL Network actually put on a counter for how many times he smiled in his Super Bowl interviews (Side note: It wasn’t a lot).
But with all criticism comes opinions from the other end of the barrel. Former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi couldn’t wait to get to First Take on Monday morning to fire back at Johnson for his comments. Listen here to find out what he said.
Stay in your ‘Lane’?
Well, looks like Lane Johnson hit a button there. Mr. Bruschi seemed to feel a bit offended about his comments and decided to get cocky in his response. Apparently speaking about your opponent from the Super Bowl is completely off limits when you win. Bruschi’s opinion on his time with the Patriots obviously can’t be wrong. But his advice to Lane Johnson just sounded more sour than genuine.
Bruschi stated that “It’s going to take more than celebrations dog masks and trick plays to repeat”. While we understand what he was getting at, the comment didn’t really have any sense behind it. Did the Eagles overcome their underdog status and celebrate it by wearing dog masks? Yes. Did they also run a trick play on fourth and goal to put six on the board rather than three? Sure did.
But didn’t they also put up 41 total points on the defending Super Bowl Champions? Didn’t they also strip sack Tom Brady late in the fourth quarter to prevent another comeback drive? To say that dog masks and trick plays won them this Super Bowl is just foolish. Clinching the NFC with a backup quarterback and dethroning the defending champs deserves a lot more respect than just saying they won with trick plays. Come on now, Tedy.
