Brent Celek, TE

This one is going to be a tough pill to swallow if it happens. Brent Celek is currently the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia. There’s no doubt in our mind that if this man gets released, the city could potentially break out in riots. Some may go as far as saying this situation could be similar to the Eagles letting former safety Brian Dawkins walk to sign with the Denver Broncos.

As much as we would want to believe that, these situations are not comparable. Dawkins left Philadelphia with three years left in the tank. Celek is holding on to the small fact that he can block. Although he still gets the job done in the trenches as a tight end, it just feels like now is the time to move on.

Celek has been rumored to be on the chopping block for the last couple of offseasons now. Obviously, the Eagles kept him on for his blocking abilities since Zach Ertz is more of a receiver. But with Ertz getting better at blocking and a rookie class that is full of tight ends who owe the same value as Celek, it will be an obvious choice to let him go. The Eagles desperately need the funds and Celek’s 13 catches for 130 yards just do not cut it at this point.
