Whenever we feel the joy again of seeing Carson Wentz’s number 11 jersey back on an NFL field, the expectation is we’ll see the same MVP level of play that we saw in 2017. Those aren’t our goals. They’re Wentz’s goals for himself.

It felt like the world ended on December 10th when a nation of Philadelphia Eagles fans watched their MVP candidate, Carson Wentz, limp down the sideline at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum towards the locker room. At the time, no one was certain that Eagles fans were being set up for a championship run one of the greatest stories in the history of NFL football. We’d learn that later.

All we cared about was the diagnosis. The next day, an MRI confirmed the worst fears of every Eagles fan. Wentz had torn his ACL, and he’d undergo surgery on December 13th. Fast forward, and now, we know that things are even worse than we originally thought. Wentz didn’t just tear his ACL. He tore his LCL as well. That isn’t good for a young quarterback that has a tendency to tuck the ball and run.

Now, we’re discussing if Wentz will even be ready by the start of the season. Don’t panic yet.

Wentz places some pretty high expectations on himself.

Mr. Wentz spoke about his injury recently, and according to Philly’s young signal caller, no one should expect him to change how he plays the game. The only thing that was missing is one of Randall Cunningham‘s ‘I’ll be back scrambling’ T-Shirts.

Check out what number 11 had to say.

"I definitely won’t change, so to speak. That’s what made me successful this last season and my whole career. It is something I’ve learned since coming into the league, how to protect myself … I am not going to let this change me."

Will he be back for the season opener though? That’s what everyone wants to know. Wentz seems confident.

"That is definitely my goal. Timetables and all those things are always such a fluid thing. Obviously (I) can’t come out and make a declaration on anything, but my goal is to be playing in Week 1."

That’s good enough for us (for now). Truthfully, it will have to be. We’ll all be waiting to see what happens.
