2017 Philadelphia Eagles End of Season Awards
Offensive MVP: Zach Ertz
Regular Season Stats: 110 targets, 74 receptions, 824 yards, 8 touchdowns
Postseason Stats: 22 targets, 18 receptions, 192 yards, 1 touchdown
Zach Ertz gets the nod for Offensive MVP and no, the fact that Carson Wentz was in the running for league MVP has not been lost on anyone. If Wentz had stayed healthy all year, then this absolutely was his to lose. However, a big part of Wentz’s success was the play of Ertz. This year was Ertz’s most consistent as a pro and he was rewarded with a Pro Bowl invite and eventually a Super Bowl win. He was tied for second on the team in touchdowns and led the team in receiving yards. He also was tied for third amongst tight ends in the entire NFL for touchdowns.
Oh yeah, and he also converted a crucial fourth down in the Super Bowl and ended up catching the game-winning touchdown. Ertz was automatic in the red zone this year and was the ideal security blanket for both Wentz and Nick Foles. He created mismatches with safeties and linebackers all year that made for easy reads by his QB. Even if he wasn’t catching the ball, he was drawing enough attention that allowed other players to come free. Ertz showed that he is both one of the best players on the Eagles, and one the best tight ends in the NFL.
