Mike Francesa backed off of some harsh words he had for Jason Kelce following the Eagles center’s epic speech at Philly’s victory parade.

Well, you didn’t think Jason Kelce’s epic rant would be accepted by everyone, did you? February 8th will go down in history as one of the great days in ‘The City of Brotherly Love’ for two reasons. One, the Philadelphia Eagles finally hosted that victory parade and raised the Lombardi Trophy in Philly. Second, who hasn’t seen Jason Kelce’s speech by now?

Following, perhaps, the greatest tirade in Philadelphia sports history, Kelce could have run for political office in Pennsylvania and won easily. Then, not too long after his comments, some good old-fashioned mudslinging ensued that would have made our great country’s current Commander in Chief very proud.

You didn’t miss any of this, did you?

It started with Mike Francesa’s comments. For the uninformed, Francesa is a radio talk show host and television commentator best known for his work on WFAN in New York City. To Eagles fans, he became part of their hit list when he stated the Eagles should Kelce because of his remarks on February 8th. Somewhere in Francesa’s comments, he even called Kelce ‘a jerk’.

Here’s his exact words:

"You got kids who take off from school, you got people who this is a life experience for them to be at a parade for a Super Bowl for a city, and you go up there and go into a 15-minute, profanity-laced tirade? It’s ridiculous. If I were the owner of the team, I’d cut him."

We later learned that Francesa hadn’t even heard the comments made by Kelce when he made that statement. You know that wasn’t going to go over well with many of the members of Philadelphia sports radio right? On Thursday morning, 94 WIP-FM’s Morning Team had Francesa on. When asked about his previous comments, the former co-host of Mike and the Mad Dog changed his tune a little.

Here’s what he had to say most recently:

"Bottom line is, I went back last night and watched the thing in its entirety, and I have to say, it was not as bad as I thought it was. I watched it and got to see it, number one, so, I want to be fair to Kelce. Number two, I wish he didn’t use any profanity because it would have been a classic. It was really well done. He did a great job, and I thought it was one that could last and be used for a long time. I know it’s popular in Philly even with the profanity, but, to me, those are such special moments that I wish they would just raise their level. I’m someone who loves the idea of a passionate tirade. I mean, I lived on them, and I like to see them do it so they can be, you know, used time and time again. Just take the profanity out of it. I know that even he said, something I saw, that he was worried about his profanity and maybe he had missed the mark on it."

With that, Francesa has now gone off to do whatever it is that retired radio hosts do. Kelce, on the other hand is now preparing for a Mummers Parade on Sunday. Just in case you’re highlighting your calendar, that’s three weeks after the Eagles first-ever Super Bowl victory.
