The University of Miami extended a wonderful honor to one of its’ own on Tuesday, Philadelphia Eagles starting guard Brandon Brooks.

When we talk about the newer members of the Philadelphia Eagles who played key pieces in their run all the way to Super Bowl LII, normally we talk about skill players and some of the difference makers on defense. The old adage about playing on the offensive line of any NFL team has always been that you hear their names when they mess up. Nothing much is said about them when they do a good job. Just ask Brandon Brooks.

Philly’s starting right guard was signed on March 9th of 2016 and started 14 games in his first year in Eagles green. In 2017, he added stability to the Eagles interior. He also made his first Pro Bowl. He just didn’t have to play in it as Philadelphia made their third Super Bowl in team history. You all know how that turned out. Brooks didn’t get mentioned much there either (because he did everything he was supposed to).

Brooks gets an unexpected honor.

During the first week in March, Brooks’ alma mater decided it was time to give some shine to someone who deserves it but doesn’t always receive it. They asked him, and he accepted. He’ll be speaking at Miami of Ohio University’s spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 19th.

Brooks made a statement when he returned to Miami’s campus in 2016 to contribute financially to the new Athletic Performance Center. It was also a part of Miami’s release following their decision. Who knew it would also apply to an honor he’d be given almost two years later?

Take a look:

"I can never repay what Miami has done for me. What it means to me is truly love and honor… Love for the game, love for the school, love for the coaches and fans and honor. It’s an honor to be able to come back to campus and give something back"

Brooks is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and owns a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Now, he’ll get a chance to facilitate as several other members of his alma mater take the next step towards their careers and the rest of their lives.
