Former Eagles TE Trey Burton finds a new home
Trey Burton now becomes a former Philadelphia Eagles tight end as he finds a new team.
We didn’t want to believe it, but the time has finally come. Sure, there are some great things about free agency like acquiring new players. But there is a major downside to the free agency market as well, especially if your team is the Super Bowl champs. Just as we expected, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton finds a new team with the Chicago Bears.
For the first time in his career, Burton will see a hefty payday. It was announced on Tuesday morning that Burton would head to Chicago on a four-year deal, collecting $32 million. Not bad at all for a former undrafted tight end. Not bad at all.
Burton had a massive demand in the market as it was rumored that 16 teams had taken an interest in him before the legal tampering period. At that point, the Eagles pretty much knew they were going to lose him as they could barely afford to make any significant moves.
Good luck, Trey.
Burton had a productive four seasons in Philadelphia with the Eagles. The last two seasons behind Zach Ertz in 2016 and 2017 are the years he truly made his name. Knowing that he would most-likely never win the sport over Ertz, Burton made the most of his snaps. Last season, he racked up 248 yards off of 23 receptions. Burton was a touchdown machine on his limited time, totaling for five scores in the regular season.
Let’s not forget his most memorable contribution though. Burton delivered the good ol’ Philly special in Super Bowl LII. Not every quarterback in the NFL can say they threw a touchdown in the Super Bowl. But Trey Burton, a tight end can.

Now with Burton gone, the Eagles have to find someone to fill in his shoes. They have their practice squad standout Billy Brown on board along with Brent Celek, for now. There have also been rumors of a possible Bennett Brothers reunion as Martellus Bennett remains a free agent. Don’t count out the Eagles drafting a tight end this year though either. They did do some heavy scouting for one at the combine two weeks ago.
