The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly been shopping around Vinny Curry. Unfortunately, nobody is buying.

One of the biggest question marks of the Philadelphia Eagles offseason has been the status of Vinny Curry. As the Eagles continued to build on the dominant defensive line with the addition of Michael Bennett and Haloti Ngata, it almost seems like overkill to keep everybody. So naturally, we all expected a move to happen sooner than later.

Now that we are well past the beginning phase of the “legal tampering” period, the Eagles are still over-saturated with pass rushers. So they have been rumored to be shopping around Vinny Curry. But apparently, the demand has not been too high. Is anybody surprised?

With Curry’s current contract, the Eagles are set to take a six-million-dollar cap hit. Considering the current cap situation is not very favorable, Curry becomes the obvious target for a re-structure or a trade. But just because Curry’s cap hit seems high for the Eagles does not mean it isn’t high for teams that can comfortably afford it.

Is Curry overpaid?

Vinny Curry signed a five-year deal worth $47 million with the Eagles back in 2015. At the time the contract seemed a bit too much, but Curry’s production seemed to be on the rise. He finished out the 2015 season with 19 tackles and a career-high of nine sacks. Since then, Curry would never match those numbers.

In fact, it took Curry three seasons to accumulate nine sacks total. Putting those numbers beside his contract makes it evident that the Eagles made a mistake with Curry’s extension a few years back. Now that is not to say that Curry did not contribute anything to the Super Bowl-winning season. At times, Curry did re-assure the Eagles to let them know why they wanted to hold on to him. Unfortunately, he had to do that on limited snaps while the rookie Derek Barnett was shining.

Now that the Eagles have traded for a cheaper and more productive version of Curry, he becomes the odd man out in this scenario. The obvious move to make this offseason was trading away Curry. But unfortunately, no other team seems willing to take on his salary. Therefore, the Eagles will be working to restructure the veteran. But according to multiple sources, if both parties do not reach an agreement soon, Curry will find himself on the market for the first in his career.
